Will Stein's Wildcats Stun No. 9 Texas A&M 31-21
For the Big Blue Nation, it was a memorable Saturday afternoon at massive Kyle Field in College Station, Texas, as Kentucky upset No. 9 Texas A&M 31-21 before a crowd of 105,186.
With the score tied at 7-7 at halftime, UK raced to a 28-7 lead in the third quarter and captured its first victory over a ranked team since 2024, when the Cats defeated No. 6 Ole Miss 20-17.
Said UK coach Will Stein, "What a victory. So proud of our guys, not because of how they played but how they prepared. It was an unbelievable week of practice. They were focused. The more physical team won the game."
With the help of his offensive line, UK quarterback Kenny Minchey was impressive, making 14 of 18 passes for 252 yards and a touchdown. Senior running back CJ Baxter Jr. led the team with 87 rushing yards in 19 carries, including two TDs.
Kentucky sophomore wide receiver DJ Miller had five receptions for 96 yards. UK's Kenny Darby caught two passes for 64 yards and a touchdown.
"Hat's off to Kentucky," said Texas A&M third-year coach Mike Elko . "They came in here, and they beat our ass. Not good enough from us on any level, coaching, playing, performing, physicality, anything. It's on me. I own it. It's my program. I'm in charge of it. And we have to get it fixed."
UK, now 2-1, will face South Alabama Saturday at Kroger Field. The 12:45 pm ET contest will be televised by SEC Network.
