Sarah Lambdin Makes Her Dream a Reality

Sarah Lambdin began her journey at Southeast Kentucky Community & Technical College by earning an Associate in Science degree. She later earned a bachelor's degree in business from the University of the Cumberlands. 

As a teenager, Lambdin developed an interest in the physical therapy field. Although her educational journey took her in several directions, each experience helped shape her career goals. After completing her degree at Southeast, she earned her bachelor's degree and began working as a pharmacy technician. The experience reinforced her passion for helping others and confirmed that a career in health care was the right fit for her.

"After I started working in health care and getting a feel for what that was like, helping patients and making a difference in their lives, I knew that's what I wanted to do," said Lambdin. "I had always been interested in physical therapy, but working with patients confirmed that it was the right path for me." 

What began as an interest in becoming a physical therapist assistant eventually evolved into a desire to become a physical therapist. Lambdin said the autonomy and clinical decision-making responsibilities associated with the profession aligned more closely with her long-term career goals. 

Lambdin recently was accepted into the Doctor of Physical Therapy program at South College. 

"I probably couldn't have done this without Southeast," she said. "Southeast was the best option for completing my prerequisites because it was close to home, affordable, and accessible. I don't think I could have continued my education without it." 

Lambdin added her time at Southeast played an important role in helping her reach her goals. Beyond providing a strong academic foundation, the college also offered a welcoming and supportive environment. 

"Once I started at Southeast, I felt comfortable right away," she said. "I always felt supported, and that made a big difference." 

One of Lambdin's professors, Dr. Matt Druen, said he was honored to play a small role in her success. 

"Sarah is one of the most motivated and focused students I have had the pleasure of teaching in the 12 years I have been with Southeast," Druen said. "When I learned that she intended to apply to a graduate program, I knew without a doubt that she would be accepted. Sarah will go on to accomplish many great things in her education and career. She represents the best of what Southeast Kentucky Community & Technical College stands for." 

Lambdin offered a piece of advice to future Southeast students and others who may be uncertain about their next step. 

"I never really thought about applying to graduate school because of where I grew up and my background," she said. "Living in a rural area, I didn't think it was something I could do. But it is. Even if resources are limited, you can still achieve your goals if you're willing to work hard and believe in yourself."
