The Middlesboro High School Yellow Jackets were just one win away from making a trip to the state baseball tournament in Lexington, but things didn't work out for them Saturday evening.
In the 13th Region tournament championship game held at South Laurel High before a nice crowd, the Yellow Jackets, who surprised tourney favorite Whitley County 7-3 in the semifinals, dropped a 9-1 decision to the Corbin Redhounds.
Middlesboro finished its remarkable 2022 season with a 19-11 mark, including the school's sixth consecutive 52nd District tournament title.
Corbin, now 26-12, will face the 5th Region champion on Friday, June 3 at UK's Kentucky Proud Park in Lexington, beginning at 10 a.m.
