HARROGATE, Tenn. - The Lincoln Memorial University athletics department announced late Thursday afternoon that Donny Grigsby has been promoted to Director of Athletics. Grigsby, who currently holds the title of Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine, assumes the role after 11 years in a full-time athletic training role for the Railsplitters. "I am both honored and humbled to have this opportunity to lead Railsplitter athletics," Grigsby said. "I have a tremendous amount of pride for Lincoln Memorial University and our community. Athletics is the front porch of our university, and I want the people in this community to have something to be proud of. We have the people in place, first-class facilities, and the deeply committed trustees necessary to make this one of the most successful programs at the NCAA Division II level. The future of Splitter Nation is bright, and I can't wait to go to work." Throughout his career, Grigsby has provided services in a variety of settings as an athletic trainer. His athletic training career began as a graduate assistant athletic trainer for LMU and Thomas Walker High School in nearby Ewing, Virginia. Following his graduate study, Grigsby worked in the clinical setting at HealthSouth Rehabilitation and provided outreach athletic training services for Knoxville Orthopedic Clinic in Knoxville, Tennessee, in the mid-to-late 90's. He was also an intern for U.S. Olympic athletes during the 1996 Summer Olympic Games in Atlanta, Georgia. Before returning to LMU, Grigsby was co-owner of Tri-State Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Clinics where he implemented and coordinated sports medicine services. A native of Middlesboro, Ky., Grigsby was inducted into the Middlesboro High School All-Sports Hall of Fame in October 2016. He received his bachelor's degree in athletic training in 1991 and a master's degree in education in 1994, both from LMU. "Lincoln Memorial University (LMU) is proud to appoint Mr. Donald Grigsby as our new Director of Athletics," said Dr. Jody Goins. "Possessing passion for LMU and its student-athletes, Mr. Grigsby will lead LMU Athletics with a sharp focus on developing and sustaining excellence in the classroom, on the playing surface, and in the community. As an LMU alumnus, Mr. Grigsby respects the importance of a high quality student-athlete experience within a student's lifecycle at LMU. LMU congratulates Mr. Grigsby and his family on this well deserved promotion." He and his wife Jessica reside in Middlesboro where Jessica is a second grade teacher at Yellow Creek Elementary School. They have two daughters, Taylor and Brooklyn, and a son, Cayden.
