LMU Features School's First Basketball Olympian in Tokyo This Week

HARROGATE, Tenn. - Former LIncoln Memorial University women's basketball player Dayshalee Salaman will be on the world stage starting this week. The Puerto Rican guard begins Olympic play with her team on Tuesday, July 27 at 8 a.m. against China. "I'm so happy and grateful to be here right now representing my country," Salaman said. "After being unable to compete in 2020 due to injury, the pandemic gave me ample time to recover. God's blessing to me has made the impossible become possible. I feel as if I have been truly blessed with this opportunity." A member of Group C, Puerto Rico will battle Australia, Belgium, and China for a quaterfinal berth. The top-two finishers in each group earn an automatic berth to the quarterfinal round, which will be contested from August 3-4. Wearing the Blue and Gray from 2008-12, Salaman made her mark as one of the best player in school history. The second-leading scorer in the history of the program (1,825 points), she averaged 16.9 points per game over her four-year career, good for sixth on the all-time list. She also ranks top-five in school history in made field goals (630), field goals attempted (1415), made three pointers (175), three point field goals attempted (484), free throws made (390), free throws attempted (499), assists (429), assist average (4.0), and minutes played (3262). She capped off her career with an outstanding 2011-12 season that saw her play in and start all 27 games. Scoring 557 points for an average of 20.6 per contest, she shot 47 percent from the field, 38 percent from the three point line, and 79 percent from the free throw line while averaging 5.3 rebounds and 4.5 assists.
