EKU Signee Turner Buttry Named Kentucky's Mr. Basketball

RICHMOND, Ky. – Future Eastern Kentucky University men’s basketball player Turner Buttry was selected as Kentucky’s Mr. Basketball on Sunday.

Buttry signed to play for the Colonels in November. He is the first Kentucky Mr. Basketball to play at EKU since 1980 when Ervin Stepp of Phelps High School won the award before coming to Richmond.

Buttry of Bowling Green High School averaged 23 points while shooting 54 percent from the field, 52 percent from three-point range (117-of-226) and 91 percent (168-of-185) from the free throw line. Buttry also averaged 3.5 assists, 3.2 rebounds and 1.4 steals per game.

He led the state in free throw percentage, was second in three-point field goal percentage and three-point field goals per game (3.7), and 26th in scoring.

The Fourth Region Player of the Year helped Bowling Green to a 26-7 record this season and a trip to the region championship game.

During his high school career, Buttry scored 1,792 points and made 426-of-458 free throws for 93 percent. He is a career 49 percent (258-of-527) shooter from three-point range. In four seasons, he helped the Purples to an overall record of 104-28. Buttry earned all-state honors in 2021.

The 5-foot-11 point guard was ranked as the No. 1 point guard and the No. 3 overall player in the Kentucky class of 2022.
