JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – In a preseason poll of media members from across the conference, the Eastern Kentucky University Colonels were picked to finish second in the ASUN in 2024-25, it was announced today. EKU received six first-place votes and a total of 528 points. In a preseason poll of conference head coaches, the Colonels were picked to place fourth.
EKU's Devontae Blanton was selected by head coaches to the Preseason All-Atlantic Sun Conference Team.
Blanton, a unanimous selection to the Preseason All-ASUN Team, was a third team All-ASUN pick by league coaches last season after averaging 14 points, 5.3 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 0.7 steals per game. He shot 42 percent from the field. The 6-foot-6 wing ranked 17th in the ASUN in scoring, 17th in field goal percentage and 17th in rebounding.
The senior from Macedonia, Ohio posted three double-doubles in 2023-24: finishing with 20 points and 11 rebounds against Prairie View A&M, 23 points and 11 rebounds at Kennesaw State, and 23 points and 13 rebounds at Austin Peay. Blanton scored a season-high 24 points two times: against Bellarmine and Florida Gulf Coast.
The Colonels won the 2023-24 Atlantic Sun Conference Regular Season Championship, the program’s first regular season conference title in 45 years. Head coach A.W. Hamilton was chosen as the ASUN Coach of the Year, the first coach in program history to be named conference coach of the year twice.
Lipscomb was picked as the preseason favorite to win the conference crown in both the media poll and the coaches poll. The Bisons received 27 of 54 first-place votes and 591 total points in the media poll, 63 more than EKU in second. Austin Peay (516), Florida Gulf Coast (429) and North Alabama (420) rounded out the Top 5 teams.
In the coaches poll, Lipscomb received eight of a possible 11 first-place votes and 138 total points. Austin Peay (110) was second and North Alabama (108) third in the coaches poll. EKU totaled 106 points for fourth and Jacksonville (98) rounded out the Top 5.
