EKU Colonels Host Stetson Thursday & Florida Gulf Coast Saturday

RICHMOND, Ky. – Two home games await the Eastern Kentucky University men’s basketball team this week. The Colonels will host Stetson on Thursday and Florida Gulf Coast on Saturday.
Thursday’s game will begin at 7 p.m. ET. Saturday’s contest is scheduled for 4 p.m. ET. Both games will air live on ESPN+. The live radio broadcasts of the games are available in the Richmond area on WCYO 100.7 FM, or worldwide on EKUSports.com.

Thursday will be Arcade Night at Baptist Health Arena with arcade games around the concourse and fun in-game content. Youth Sports Day, sponsored by Coca-Cola, will be on Saturday along with a foam finger giveaway and a postgame autograph session with the team.
THE COLONELS
- EKU (9-10, 3-3 ASUN) forced 16 turnovers and committed only nine on its way to a 72-69 victory over Bellarmine on Saturday.
- Over the last four games, Montavious Myrick has averaged 10 points, 11 rebounds, 3.3 blocks and 1.5 assists per game while shooting 75 percent from the field and 77 percent from the free throw line. He finished with 12 points, eight rebounds, two assists, two steals and two blocks against the Knights.
- Over the last eight games, EKU has shot 83 percent from the free throw line. The Colonels are now third in the Atlantic Sun Conference and 124th in the nation with a 73.3 free throw percentage for the season.
- Over the last two games, Turner Buttry is averaging 17 points, three assists and two steals while shooting 53 percent from the field and 71 percent (10-for-14) from 3-point range.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
- Stetson is just 5-14 overall, but the Hatters have won three of their last five and sit at 3-3 in ASUN games. Stetson has beaten West Georgia twice and Central Arkansas in its last five games.
- The Hatters have allowed 83 points per game, the second-most by any team in the ASUN. Stetson also ranks 351st out of 355 NCAA teams in turnover margin (-4.4). Mehki Ellison, a 6-foot junior guard, leads the team in scoring (15.9 ppg) and assists (2.5 apg). Josh Massey, a 6-foot-6 senior forward, is the top rebounder at 5.0 boards per game.
- Florida Gulf Coast, which is 10-9 overall, has gotten off to a fast start in conference play. The Eagles have won five of their first six league games going into Thursday’s contest at Bellarmine. FGCU’s only ASUN loss was at Queens (92-83), but the Eagles got revenge 16 days later by beating the Royals at home (60-47).
- Dallion Johnson, a 6-foot-3 senior guard, has hit a team-high 53 three-pointers and leads Florida Gulf Coast in scoring at 13.7 points per game. Keeshawn Kellman, a 6-foot-8 forward who is shooting 61 percent from the field this season, is second on the team with 12.2 points per game and leads the team with 7.1 rebounds per game.
INSIDE THE SERIES
- Stetson holds a 3-1 record in the series with EKU. The Colonels won the only previous meeting in Richmond, 85-70, on Jan. 14, 2023. The Hatters won the most recent meeting, 87-79, on Feb. 10, 2024 in DeLand. EKU overcame an 11-point second half deficit in that game, but couldn’t hold off Stetson. Leland Walker led EKU with 26 points. Jalen Blackmon led Stetson with 27 points. The Colonels made 54 percent of their shots from the field and 50 percent (9-of-18) from behind the arc. The Hatters shot 43 percent from the field and were 7-of-19 from deep (36.8 percent).
- The Colonels hold a 2-1 lead in the series with FGCU. EKU is 2-0 against the Eagles in Richmond. In the most recent meeting the Colonels earned a 90-82 win in Richmond on Feb. 7, 2024. Isaiah Cozart broke EKU’s career blocks record in that meeting. Devontae Blanton had 24 points. Isaiah Thompson led FGCU with 17 points. EKU shot 65 percent from the field in the second half and 60 percent for the game. The Colonels were 11-for-20 (55 percent) from 3-point range.
