LMU Railsplitters No. 6 in NABC/Division II poll

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Lincoln Memorial University men's basketball team stayed put at No. 6 in this week's NABC/Division II coaches poll, which was released on Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 2. The Railsplitters (12-1) have played just one game since the last poll was unveiled on December 26, beating Lenoir-Rhyne 72-55 on Saturday to stay unbeaten in South Atlantic Conference play. It was a light week across all of the NCAA Division II as teams returned to campus from the winter break. The top 14 spots remained the same in the NABC poll while 24 of the 25 teams ranked in last week's poll stayed in this week. The Railsplitters rebounded from their first loss of the season - a 70-56 setback against No. 1 Northwest Missouri State right before the holiday break - with a 17-point win at Lenoir-Rhyne on Saturday. Powered by a 44-31 scoring disparity in the second half, the win helped Lincoln Memorial become the first SAC team with six league victories and remain undefeated in conference play. Northwest Missouri State retained the top spot in the poll while Queens stayed at No. 2. Those two are followed by No. 3 Bellarmine, No. 4 West Liberty and No. 5 Christian Brothers. After Lincoln Memorial, the top 10 of the poll is rounded out by Barry, UT-Permian Basin, Arkansas-Fort Smith and Ferris State. The Railsplitters will play two straight home games this week, welcoming Anderson to Tex Turner Arena at 8 p.m. on Wednesday night, Jan. 3 before tangling with Coker on Saturday. After that, Lincoln Memorial will travel to No. 2 Queens in the first of two regular-season matchups against the Royals on January 13.

Meanwhile, the Lincoln Memorial University women's basketball team also opens the new year with a Wednesday evening date with Anderson University in the Tex Turner Arena. The Lady Railsplitters enter the game at 7-5 overall on the season and 3-3 in the SAC after using a dominating second half, and third quarter in particular, to defeat Lenoir-Rhyne 72-58 last Saturday.
