VIDEO: Five Questions for UK Deputy Athletics Director DeWayne Peevy
By Amy Jones-Timoney and Kody Kiser
LEXINGTON, Ky. — As the University of Kentucky men's basketball team prepares to kick off its regular season with Big Blue Madness, UK Deputy Director of Athletics DeWayne Peevy prepares for the calm before the storm.
Since he oversees the men's basketball program as part of his role with UK Athletics, the next few months will keep the Birmingham, Ala., native busy as he travels with the team. But assisting UK Athletics Director Mitch Barnhart with fundraising and public relations initiatives and strategic planning as part of his executive staff is a year-round effort.
This past year, Peevy and the entire UK athletics department celebrated a feat that had never been accomplished in the university's storied history by finishing 10th in the final 2016-17 Learfield Sports Director's Cup standings. Since the Director's Cup measures competitive success across multiple sports for all Division-I schools, the 10th place-finish demonstrates success for all of UK's athletes.
UKNow recently sat down with Peevy to talk about what he loves most in his role as an administrator and what this most recent accomplishment means to him.
This episode of our “Five Questions” series will give you an inside look into a side of UK Athletics most fans never see. Watch Peevy explain what it means to him when former players return to earn their UK degrees and discover why he thinks Big Blue Nation is unlike any other fan base in the country!
