LEXINGTON, Ky. – Notre Dame, Stanford, Ohio State and Texas -- all ranked among the nation’s Top 14 teams -- are headed to Lexington for the NCAA Women’s Basketball Regional, set for Friday, March 24, and Sunday, March 26, in Rupp Arena.
Sweet 16 action begins with a doubleheader Friday. Notre Dame takes on Ohio State in the opener at 7 p.m., followed by Stanford vs. Texas, 30 minutes following the conclusion of the first game. The winners will square off Sunday at noon for a trip to the Final Four.
Notre Dame, ranked No. 2 in the country by The Associated Press, has a 32-3 record and has won 16 games in a row. The Fighting Irish are the Atlantic Coast Conference regular season and tournament champions. They defeated Robert Morris and Purdue in the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament.
Ohio State, the Big Ten regular season co-champion, entered the tournament rated No. 11 nationally in the AP poll. OSU has a 28-6 record after defeating WKU and Kentucky to reach the Sweet 16. The Buckeyes are led by All-American and two-time Big Ten Conference Player of the Year Kelsey Mitchell (pictured).
Stanford is ranked No. 6 and the Cardinal’s 30-6 record features a six-game winning streak. Stanford won the Pac 12 Tournament and beat New Mexico State and Kansas State to make it to Lexington.
Texas finished second in the Big 12 Conference regular season and the Longhorns are listed No. 14 in the AP poll. Texas comes to Lexington with a 25-8 record and dispatched Central Arkansas and North Carolina State in the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament.
