LMU Railsplitters Moving Up In National Polls

The Lincoln Memorial University men's basketball team continued its ascent in the national polls by moving up to No. 7 in the NCAA Division II media rankings and No. 15 in the NABC/Division II rankings, which were released on Tuesday, Feb. 14. The Railsplitters, who are located in Harrogate, Tenn., were ranked 10th in last week's DII media poll and 16th in the coaches poll.

Lincoln Memorial (20-4) pushed its winning streak to 10 games this past week by throttling the Tusculum Pioneers 87-67 on Wednesday night before rallying from a 23-point deficit to beat Newberry 92-85 on Saturday. Those two wins kept LMU within a game of first place in the South Atlantic Conference standings. Queens - ranked 10th in the NABC poll and 8th in the DII media poll - holds the lead for now with a 16-2 SAC record, but the Railsplitters and Royals square off on Saturday at Tex Turner Arena. Both of the national polls were seismically altered thanks to a number of losses by Top 10 squads. Northwest Missouri State - the nation's last remaining unbeaten team - is the unanimous No. 1 ranked team according to the NABC and the DII media, but the rest is up in the air. The Railsplitters have two games on the docket this week, traveling to Mars Hill for an 8 p.m. tip-off on Wednesday before hosting Queens for a nationally-ranked showdown at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
