LEXINGTON, Ky. -- The Lexington Legends will have two representatives on the Southern Division roster for the South Atlantic League All-Star game, which will be played at Whitaker Bank Ballpark Tuesday, June 21, it was announced Tuesday, June 7.
Pitcher Emilio Ogando (pictured, right below) and catcher Chase Vallot (pictured, left below) were named to the SAL All-Star squad. Legends manager Omar Ramirez will serve as a coach for the Southern Division team, and athletic trainer Mark Keiser will serve in that capacity for the Southern Division.
The teams are selected by the votes of managers and coaching staffs, local media and front office executives.

Ogando, 22, a left-hander from Valrico, Florida, was a 12th round pick by the Kansas City Royals in the June 2014 draft. He has a record of 4-4 this season with an earned run average of 3.93. He has appeared 11 games and started seven. Ogando has struck out 48 batters and walked 18 in 55 innings pitched.

Vallot, 19, a native of Lafayette, Louisiana, was a first-round pick (40th overall) by the Royals in the June 2014 draft. He is batting .289 with eight home runs and 29 runs batted in. He is tied for third in the league in home runs and is fourth in the league in slugging percentage at .535. He has hit a home run every 17.75 at bats, the best home runs to at bats ratio in the league.
“The All-Star selection is well-deserved for Chase and Emilio,” said Legends president/CEO Andy Shea. “We’re proud to have them as our representatives, along with manager Omar Ramirez and athletic trainer Mark Keiser, in a year when we’re serving as host for the All-Star game.”
Vallot, by the way, has been out of action since taking a hard fall after going up to catch a throw at home plate in the Legends game against Greensboro June 1. He is listed as day-to-day and is expected to return to the Legends’ active roster soon. He is temporarily on the roster of the Arizona League Royals, a short-season team that does not begin its season until later this month.
Whitaker Bank Ballpark will be hosting its second SAL All-Star Game. The first time was in 2003, when the Southern Division beat the Northern Division 3-2. The annual SAL All-Star Game dates to 1960, when the All-Stars defeated the Salisbury club, 6-2, in Newton, NC.
Tickets for the All-Star game start at $12 and may be purchased online at www.lexingtonlegends.com or by calling the Legends box office at 859-422-7867.
