Lexington Legends Drop Slugfest To Lakewood Sunday; Legends' Homestand Continues Through Wednesd
LEXINGTON, Ky. -- The Lexington Legends lost their first game of the 2016 season Sunday, April 10, dropping to the Lakewood BlueClaws in a 10-9 slugfest at Whitaker Bank Ballpark.
Even though a crowd of 2,469 saw both clubs crack 26 hits, including 15 by Lakewood, in the four-game series finale, it was a safety squeeze that put the BlueClaws ahead in the 10th inning and they held off Lexington to win the exciting contest. Lakewood's Samuel Hiciano, in his first game of the year after missing all of 2014 with an ankle injury, drove home Cornelius Randolph with a bunt to put Lakewood up 10-9.
Robert Tasin of Lakewood, a Class A affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies, threw a 1-2-3 10th for his first save of the year.
Lexington is now 3-1 for the season, while Lakewood improves to 1-3.
Meanwhile, on Saturday night, Lexington's Ben Johnson (pictured) had a single, double and triple, helping the Legends, who also had eight walks, to an 11-3 win over Lakewood.
The Legends' first homestand of the new season continues through Wednesday, April 13 at Whitaker Bank Ballpark.
A Class A affiliate of the World Series champion Kansas City Royals, Lexington will take on the Augusta GreenJackets, an affiliate of the San Francisco Giants, for three games -- Monday night, Tuesday night and Wednesday morning.
“Even after the excitement of opening day, the homestand has a lot to offer for our fans,” said Legends' President/CEO Andy Shea. “The team is off to a great start, and opening at home gives our fans a chance to take an early look at the team and enjoy some of the great promotions and discounts at Whitaker Bank Ballpark.”
