2016 SEC Men's Basketball Tournament Pairings Announced; Kentucky Will Play Friday Night In Musi

UK to Face Winner of Alabama-Ole Miss in SEC Tournament; Kentucky draws the second seed and will play on Friday

The Kentucky men’s basketball team has drawn the No. 2 seed in the annual Southeastern Conference Tournament and has earned the coveted double bye. The Wildcats will play the winner of the Alabama-Ole Miss game on Friday, March 11 in Nashville, Tenn., at 7 p.m. ET in the quarterfinals.

UK clinched a share of its 47th regular-season Southeastern Conference championship and its fourth under head coach John Calipari on Saturday with a 94-77 victory over LSU on Senior Day. The Wildcats tied Texas A&M for the best record in the league with a 13-5 mark, but the Aggies earned the top seed with the head-to-head tiebreaker.

The last time UK was the No. 2 seed in the SEC Tournament was in 2014, when the Wildcats advanced to the championship game and lost to Florida. The Wildcats went on to advance to the national championship game that season.

Kentucky went 1-0 vs. the Rebels and 2.0 vs. the Crimson Tide this season. Ole Miss is the No. 7 seed and Alabama is the No. 10 seed.

UK’s quarterfinal SEC Tournament game will be televised by the SEC Network. If Kentucky were to win Friday, it would play Saturday at approximately 3:30 p.m. ET. Sunday’s championship game is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET.

Both the semifinals and championship will be televised on ESPN.

UK leads the league with 28 SEC Tournament titles, including three under Calipari and last year’s championship. The Wildcats are 124-25 all-time in the SEC Tournament, including 41-11 in the quarterfinals. Kentucky is 15-0 all-time vs. Ole Miss in the SEC Tournament and 13-2 vs. Alabama.

Of the Wildcats’ five conference losses this season, all five of those teams are on the opposite side of the bracket.

It’s the second straight season the tournament will be held at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville and the third time in the last four years.
