LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky women’s basketball team will be the No. 5 seed in the 2016 Southeastern Conference Tournament and play on Thursday at approx. 2:30 p.m. ET against the winner of 12th-seeded Alabama and 13th-seeded LSU. (See SEC Tournament Bracket Below)
With its win at 11th-ranked Texas A&M on Sunday, Kentucky tied for the No. 4 seed in the tournament with Florida, which won the head-to-head tiebreaker having defeated the Wildcats, 85-79, in Gainesville in late January. Kentucky faced both Alabama and LSU earlier this season in Memorial Coliseum, taking down Alabama 73-48 and LSU 70-58.
The 2016 SEC Tournament will be played March 2-6 at Veterans Memorial Arena in downtown Jacksonville, Fla. Public tickets for this year’s event went on sale in October and are available online at SECSports.com. The winner of the 13-game tournament will receive the league’s automatic big to the NCAA Tournament, which will begin March 18-21.
The event will once again enjoy live television coverage as SEC Network will televise all first, second and quarterfinal games. The semifinals will be aired on ESPNU for the fifth consecutive season, while the championship game will be televised on ESPN.
Last year, Kentucky earned the No. 6 seed in the SEC Tournament and advanced to the semifinals for the sixth straight season before falling to Tennessee.
