No. 18 Kentucky Defeats No. 15 Arizona State 68-64 In Overtime; Starter Maci Morris Contributes Five

Kentucky women’s basketball team has passed an early season road test with a 68-64 overtime victory over Arizona State Sunday evening in Tempe, Arizona.

But the 18th-ranked Wildcats (now 2-0) got off to a slow start with a 29-17 halftime deficit before bouncing back against No. 15 Arizona State before a crowd of 4,543 at Well Fargo Arena. The game marked the first time since last December against Louisville that Kentucky has won on the road when trailing at halftime by double digits.

Leading UK in the scoring column was junior Makayla Epps (pictured, left), who gunned in game-high 20 points, including 8 of 9 free throws. Epps had two clutching free throws at the end of regulation play and added two more free throws with :03 left in overtime to clinch the win for Kentucky.

Six-foot-3 forward Evelyn Akhator (pictured), a junior college transfer who picked UK over Tennessee, Texas and Florida State, led the squad in rebounding for the second straight game with game-high 10 caroms.

Freshman starter Maci Morris, a former star at Bell County High School, had five points, including one three-pointer, along with 2 assists and one steal in 19 minutes.

The Wildcats return to action on Wednesday night, Nov. 18, when they host Morehead State at Memorial Coliseum. The 7 p.m. game is available for viewing online via SEC Network Plus.
