LEXINGTON, Ky. – Newcomers Maci Morris and Evelyn Akhator (both pictured below) each scored a game-high 16 points on Friday night, Nov. 13 in Memorial Coliseum as the No. 18/17 University of Kentucky women’s basketball team downed the Rice Owls 72-39 in its season opener before a crowd of 4,907. Morris, a Bell County native, scored 16 points in the game and had three 3s, going 3-from-5 in the game. Akhator notched her first-career double-double with over seven minutes remaining in the third period, ending up with 16 points and a dominating 17 rebounds. UK moves to 1-0 on the season, and will face the No. 15 Arizona State Sun Devils in Tempe, Ariz., on Sunday afternoon at 5:30 p.m. ET. The game will be shown live on the PAC-12 Networks.
