OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Premier Sports Management announced its 10 finalists for the annual Senior CLASS Award on Friday afternoon, Oct. 30 with standout setter Morgan Bergren being one of the remaining candidates for the honor.
The finalists were chosen by a media committee from the list of 30 candidates announced in September. Nationwide fan voting begins immediately to help select the winner, and fans are encouraged to vote on the Senior CLASS Award Web site through Dec. 7. Fans can vote once a day until the Dec. 7 cut off. Fan votes will then be combined with media and Division I head coaches’ votes to determine the winner. The Senior CLASS Award recipient will be announced during the 2015 NCAA Division I Women’s Volleyball Championship in December. Bergren is having another impressive season where she has helped guide the Wildcats to first place in the SEC so far, with the team going 8-1 in conference play while winning 11 of their last 12 matches. The senior is closing in on another major milestone, sitting at 3,443 career assists. Bergren needs just 57 more to achieve the 3,500 career assists. Only four other Wildcats in Leigh Marcum (2002-05), Jane Belanger (1990-93), Laura Linder (1987-90) and Sarah Rumley (2006-09) have eclipsed the 3,500 assist mark. The Muncie, Ind., native looks to add to her accolades for the 2015 season, where she was also named to the All-SEC preseason team, the Bluegrass Battle All-Tournament Team and SEC Player and Setter of the Week for Oct. 12. An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
