EKU's Glenn Cosey Signs With Professional Team in France

Former Eastern Kentucky University men’s basketball player Glenn Cosey (pictured) has signed a contract to play professionally in France. Cosey will play for Evreux in the Ligue Nationale de Basket (LNB).

The LNB has two divisions, Pro A and Pro B. Evreux is one of 18 teams in Pro B. Last season the team finished tied for fifth with a 25-19 record. Evreux defeated The Portel 2-1 in the first round best of three playoff series. The team fell to eventual champion Bourg-en-Bresse 2-1 in the semifinals.

“I was told by my agent that most rookies don’t play in France their first year, they have to prove themselves first,” Cosey said. “So it’s a great opportunity that I couldn’t pass on.”

The 2014-15 season begins in September. Cosey will report for training in August.

Evreux, located in northern France, has a population of over 50,000 and is about 60 miles northwest of Paris.

Cosey helped the Colonels (24-10) capture the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament Championship and earn the program’s eighth NCAA Tournament bid this past season. The Flint, Michigan native was named to the 2013-14 Lou Henson All-America team, chosen first team All-OVC and first team NABC All-District.

Cosey averaged 18.7 points, 4.2 assists, 3.2 rebounds and 1.2 steals per game in 2013-14. He led the conference in three-pointers made (3.4 per game), was second in assists-to-turnover ratio (2.3), third in free throw shooting (84.1 percent), fourth in scoring, fifth in three-point shooting (42.6 percent) and eighth in assists (4.2 apg).

The 6-foot guard hit five 3-pointers and finished with 17 points, three assists and two rebounds in Eastern’s near upset of No. 2 seed Kansas in the NCAA Tournament.

On Jan. 2, Cosey broke the Eastern Kentucky record and tied the OVC mark with 10 three-pointers at Eastern Illinois. On Feb. 1, he banked in a 35-footer with 0.4 seconds left to give EKU a 79-78 victory over Southeast Missouri. The shot completed a comeback from 10 points down with 3:57 left and earned the No. 1 spot on SportsCenter’s Top-10 Plays.

In his last regular season game, Cosey scored his 1,000th point in two seasons as a Colonel, becoming the school’s 32nd member of the 1,000-point club. Against Murray State in the OVC Tournament semifinals on March 7, Cosey broke the single season EKU record for three-pointers (104). He finished with 115 treys.

Cosey earned a bachelor’s degree in sports management in May.
