Kentucky's Lynn Bowden Named SEC All-Freshman


BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Kentucky's Lynn Bowden (pictured) has been named to the 2017 SEC All-Freshman Football Team, it was announced Thursday, Dec. 6.


A four-star product from Youngstown, Ohio, Bowden, a wide receiver who saw most of his action on special teams, had 35 kickoff returns for 807 yards for an average of 23.06 yards. During UK's 44-21 win over Vanderbilt at Nashville, Bowden weaved his way 93 yards for a kickoff return in the third quarter, taking the ball to the six-yard line to set up a Benny Snell touchdown run. It was Kentucky's longest kickoff return since 2009.

Missouri placed a league-leading five selections on the SEC All-Freshman squad. Four SEC institutions, including Missouri, placed three or more members on the All-Freshman team. Georgia and LSU were represented with four selections, while Florida had three.

Missouri’s Larry Rountree III earned two selections to the All-Freshman team. He garnered recognition as both an all-purpose athlete and a return specialist.

Georgia’s Jake Fromm, an SEC All-Freshman team honoree at quarterback, was named the SEC’s Freshman of the Year on Wednesday.

The team was voted on by the league’s head coaches, who were not permitted to vote for their own players.
