LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky senior infielder/outfielder Luke Heyer (pictured) was named Southeastern Conference Player of the Week after his tear through the Shriners Hospitals for Children College Classic in Houston, it was announced on Monday, March 5.

Heyer, who hails from Lithia, Fla., was named the six-team tournament’s Most Outstanding Player after he peppered Minute Maid Park with rockets in the Wildcats’ wins over No. 19 Houston, No. 20 Sam Houston State and Louisiana.

The 6-foot, 200-pounder hit .727 with a 1.727 slugging percentage for the event, scoring five runs, driving in six, smoking two doubles and three home runs, including two against Houston. He began the weekend with a two-run blast off Houston All-American lefty Trey Cumbie and delivered the game-winning RBI in both the win over the Cougars as well as against Sam Houston State.

For the week, Heyer hit .667 in four games while slugging 1.400. He extended the ninth inning of UK’s walk-off win against Western Kentucky with a single that ultimately led to Troy Squires’ two-strike, two-out, two-run game-tying single and Cam Hill scoring the winner on a passed ball.

In 11 games (10 starts) this season Heyer is hitting .462 with 13 runs, three doubles, seven home runs, 16 RBI, five walks and three stolen bases. He is averaging an extra-base hit every 3.9 at bats.
