EKU Standout Jeffrey Canady of Barbourville Named Second Team Preseason All-American

RICHMOND, Ky. – Eastern Kentucky University senior linebacker Jeffrey Canady (pictured) was chosen as a second team preseason All-American by TyrantScouting.com, the site recently announced.

The Barbourville, Ky., native started all 11 games last season and was chosen to the Academic All-District Football Team. Canady led the team, was second in the Ohio Valley Conference and seventh in the nation with 123 tackles (11.2 tackles per game). He posted a season-best 17 tackles at Tennessee Tech (Oct. 1) and against Murray State (Nov. 5). That total tied for the 18th most in a single game in FCS football in 2016.

The 6-foot, 232-pound Canady registered 5.0 tackles for a loss of 14 yards, had 1.5 sacks and two pass break-ups. He totaled 10 or more tackles in a game seven times. He had 15 tackles in the season-finale against Eastern Illinois (Nov. 19).

Canady also earned a spot on the OVC Commissioner’s Honor Roll and is an Allstate Good Works Team nominee.

He was a first team All-State performer at Knox Central High School.

The Colonels begin their season on Saturday, Sept. 2 at Western Kentucky. The game will be streamed live on FloFootball.com starting at 7 p.m. ET.

Eastern’s first home game is slated for Sept. 23 against Tennessee Tech.
