Kentucky is 5-2 overall, 2-2 in the Southeastern Conference. Mississippi State is 5-2, 2-2 in league play.
Mississippi State leads the series, 23-22.
UK returns to action Sat. Oct. 28 at home vs. Tennessee. Game time is 7:30 p.m. and it will be televised on the SEC Network.
Team Notes
Kentucky scored seven points today, ending its school-record streak of 13 straight regular-season games of 23 or more points.
Kentucky was -2 in turnovers today. The Wildcats are now +6 for the season. UK entered the game ranked seventh in the nation in turnover margin.
Kentucky did not score in the first quarter, ending a streak of having scored in 20 consecutive quarters. That was UK’s best streak since the 2007 season when the Cats tallied in 27 straight quarters.
Player Notes
UK’s game captains were OG Nick Haynes, QB Stephen Johnson, LB Courtney Love and S Mike Edwards.
Senior quarterback Stephen Johnson (pictured) completed 13 of 28 passes for 117 yards.
Johnson led the Wildcats in rushing today with 54 net yards on six carries.
UK is now 12-6 over the last 18 games with Johnson as the starter (10-6) or QB for the majority of the game in a relief role (2-0).
Senior wide receiver Garrett Johnson led the receivers with five catches for 36 yards.
He has caught a pass in 18 consecutive games and is fourth in UK history with 1,919 receiving yards.
In the second quarter, senior wide receiver Blake Bone recovered a UK fumble in the end zone for a touchdown. It is his third touchdown of the season, sixth of his career. Bone also had two receptions for 17 yards.
Senior kicker Austin MacGinnis had one point today, adding to his school career record with 315 points.
Freshman wide receiver Lynn Bowden had 149 all-purpose yards. He had 112 yards in kickoff returns and caught three passes for 38 yards.
Junior safety Mike Edwards had 11 tackles, his third double-figure tackle game of the season and seventh of his career. He had one tackle for loss and a pass breakup.
Junior linebacker Jordan Jones returned to action after missing four games because of injury. He had seven tackles, including one for loss, and had a quarterback hurry.
Junior linebacker Josh Allen had five tackles, including one for loss. He also broke up two passes, including one on a fourth-down play that gave the ball back to the Wildcats.
Senior punter Matt Panton had one of his best games with a 45.1-yard average, including a long of 67 yards and three punts inside the 20-yard line.
Redshirt freshman Drake Jackson opened at center, his first collegiate start.
