Top Prospect Khalil Lee of Lexington Legends Named South Atlantic League Player of Week


Lexington Legends outfielder Khalil Lee (pictured) has been named South Atlantic League Player of the Week for August 14-20, it was announced by the league Monday, August 21.


In five games last week, Lee batted .409 (nine hits in 22 at bats), with five doubles, two home runs, seven runs batted in and five runs scored. On August 18 against Asheville, he had four hits in five at bats, including two doubles and a home run. He drove in five runs in the game.

On August 19, Lee hit a home run in the bottom of the 10th inning to give the Legends a 6-5 win over Asheville.

Lee, 19, was the Kansas City Royals’ third round pick in the 2016 draft. He is ranked as the No. 2 prospect in the Kansas City organization by mlb.com.

“Khalil Lee is an outstanding prospect. We really saw his skills on display last week,” said Legends president/CEO Andy Shea. “We’ve enjoyed having him with us this year, and we’ll look forward to watching his career progress as he moves up.”

Lee and the Class A Legends will wrap up a homestand with a 7:05 p.m. game against Asheville on Monday, August 21 at Whitaker Bank Ballpark.
