UK Leads Nation in CoSIDA Publication Awards


LEXINGTON, Ky. – University of Kentucky Athletics’ Brand and Content work group, featuring the Creative Services, Media Relations, Strategic Communication, Photography and Marketing departments, combined to lead the nation with 14 publications awards from the College Sports Information Directors of America.


The awards are for the 2016-17 school year. After UK, Kansas State and West Virginia are next with eight awards each.

“What these awards recognize is the daily commitment of our Brand and Content team to support the success of our student-athletes with the best work in the country,” said Tim Bernal, Executive Associate Athletics Director for External Operations. “Under the direction of unit heads Craig Hornberger for Creative Services, Guy Ramsey for Strategic Communication, Tony Neely in Media Relations and Nathan Schwake in Marketing, I'm always amazed but never surprised by the quality of work produced by their teams.”

Among the UK honors are two for Best in the Nation and two Best Covers. Since 2007, UK has garnered 19 Best in the Nation honors and 17 Best Cover accolades.

UK’s Best in the Nation and Best Cover citations for this year included:

**The baseball media guide was chosen Best Cover, designed by Creative Director Brandon Kolditz, compiled by Assistant Media Relations Director Matt May and photographed by Britney Howard. It is the second year in a row that the baseball media guide won Best Cover.

**Kolditz, May, Howard and Assistant Marketing Director Greg Herbert combined to win Best in the Nation for the baseball game program in the Single Sports Programs category.

**UK won Best Cover for softball in the Single Sports Programs category. It was designed by Assistant Creative Director Matt Taylor, compiled by Assistant Media Relations Director Chris Shoals and Marketing Director Kate Stoess, with photography by Howard.

**The spring football media guide was Best in the Nation in the Special Events Program. Associate Media Relations Director Susan Lax compiled the guide with assistance from Neely. It was designed by Kolditz.

Additional accolades for UK featured:

**The men’s basketball media guide was third in nation in that category. Associate Media Relations Director Eric Lindsey and Assistant Media Relations Director Deb Moore produced the guide. Kolditz handled the design work with photography by Chet White. It is the third year in a row that the guide finished in the nation’s top three.

**The women’s basketball media guide was third in the nation in that division. Assistant Media Relations Director Evan Crane compiled the guide, with design by Taylor and photography by Howard. Crane, Taylor and Howard also teamed to finish second in the Postseason Guides category.

**UK had a strong showing in the Fall Sports Posters category, placing second, third and fourth.

  • The women’s golf poster, designed by Kolditz, compiled by Lindsey and photographed by Howard, was second.

  • The women’s soccer poster, with design by Kolditz, compilation by Shoals and Assistant Marketing Director Devin Kochergen, and photography by White, was third.

  • Fourth place was earned by the men’s soccer poster, designed by Taylor, compiled by Assistant Media Relations Director Jake Most and Herbert, with photography by Howard.

**The gymnastics program was second in Single Sports Programs. It was compiled by Media Relations Assistant Mike Scholze and Kochergen, with design by Taylor and photography by White.

**The UK Annual Report was second in the Special Events category. It was compiled by Ramsey and designed by Craig Hornberger, Senior Director of Creative Services. It is the third year in a row that the annual report has been first or second in the nation.

**The men’s tennis poster claimed third in Winter/Spring Posters. It was designed by Kolditz, compiled by Scholze and photographed by Howard.

**The track and field poster was sixth in Winter/Spring Posters. Hornberger handled the design, with compilation by Most and photography by White.
